How are POP and IMAP different?
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a newer protocol that allows you to access and manage your email remotely. What you do in the application affects the email on the email server.
- Bidirectional synchronization: emails remain on the server and are accessed remotely.
- Full access: access all emails from all folders with the application.
- Registration of the sent email: the email you send using the application is saved on the server.
- Manage the mailbox once: emails deleted or moved in the application are deleted or moved on the server.
POP (Post Office Protocol) is an earlier protocol that copies emails from the email server to the application. The actions performed in the application do not affect the email on the email server.
- Unidirectional synchronization: just download the email from the server.
- Limited access: just download emails from the Inbox.
- No email sent: the emails sent from the application are not saved on the server.
- Manage inboxes independently: deletion or transfer of email in the application is not reflected on the server.
- Keep email in the server options: different settings allow you to leave a copy of your email on the server or delete it when it is downloaded.
Discontinue POP access
To interrupt POP access, delete the POP settings of your Yahoo Mail account from the application you are using. You do not need to make any changes to your Yahoo mail account.
