Step 1: Log in on DIRECTV Stream’s Website (Not the App)

DIRECTV Stream can be canceled online, but not through the DIRECTV Stream app. To shut things down for good, you’ll need to head to DIRECTV Stream’s website at DIRECTV.com/stream. Sign in through the “Account overview” option, which will appear on a drop-down menu when you click “SIGN IN.” Log in with your credentials to get started.

You can also reach your Account Overview page by accessing DIRECTV Stream’s browser app and navigating to Settings > Account Details.

Step 2: Click “MANAGE MY SUBSCRIPTION”

On your account page, you should see a box labeled MY TV SUBSCRIPTION with a button marked “MANAGE MY SUBSCRIPTION.” Click that button to get a closer look at what you’re paying for.

Step 3: Click “CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION”

Now you should be on a screen labeled “MANAGE MY TV SUBSCRIPTION.” You should see an info box describing your current subscription. Check out the lower-left corner of that box, and you should see a plain-text link meekly offering you a path to cancellation. Go ahead and click that “CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION” hyperlink to move on.

Step 4: Click “CHAT TO CANCEL”

Once you click to cancel, you’ll be treated to a little bit of begging from DIRECTV Stream. A colorful button will invite you to keep your subscription. If you remain unconvinced, click the less colorful button labeled “CHAT TO CANCEL.”

Step 5: Confirm Your Cancellation With a DIRECTV Stream Representative

Though canceling DIRECTV Stream is a lot easier than canceling cable, it’s not as easy as it could be. The service forces you to use an online chat to cancel, meaning you have to talk to a representative rather than just click a button. Luckily, our testing has found that it’s pretty easy to get through this process in just a few seconds.

We recommend you start your chat simply and politely: Introduce yourself and say that you’d like to cancel your DIRECTV Stream subscription. You most likely won’t have to provide any other information, because the representative will be able to see that you’ve logged in with your account information.

The representative will almost certainly ask why you’ve chosen to cancel. We recommend saying that you’ve decided you just don’t need a live TV service at all.
