Add photos and videos from Google Drive to Google Photos

To organize your photos and videos in all services, you can add photos from Google Drive to Google Photos.

Before starting

  1. The photo must be more than 256 pixels.
  2. The file type must be .jpg, .gif, .webp, .tiff or .raw.
  3. If you use a Google account through work or school, you must download it from Google Drive and upload it again to Google Photos.

Add photos and videos from Google Drive to Google Photos on Computer, iPhone and Android

  1. On your computer, iPhone, and Android device, go to photos.google.com.
  2. In the upper right, click Upload and then Google Drive.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click on Upload.

What happens when you change or delete a photo?

Any changes you make to Drive will only apply to Drive. Any changes you make to Photos will only apply to Photos.

Check your storage

Your photos and videos are stored using the Google Account's storage space.

  1. Items copied from Google Drive to Google Photos are loaded according to the size of the upload, such as High Quality or Original Quality.
  2. If you copy an article in original Google Drive quality to Google Photos, the new copy in Google Photos will also be counted in your storage quota.
  3. If you upload in High Quality with Google Photos or Backup and sync, it will not count toward your storage quota.
